Trip to Ottawa starts with a win

OTTAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords earned a hard-fought five-set road win over the Algonquin Wolves on Saturday afternoon, rallying from an early deficit to take the match 3-2.

The hosts claimed the opening two sets, but the Lords flipped the momentum with set three win to stay alive before edging Algonquin in a tight fourth that went to extra serves to force a deciding fifth. 

Durham closed it out in the final set by a 15-12 score, pulling away late to seal the victory.

Jessie Buck led the Durham attack with 13 kills on an efficient .565 hitting percentage, adding two blocks for 15.0 points.

Elizabeth McFarland chipped in nine kills, 10 digs, four service aces and two blocks, while Chelsea Oke added nine kills in an all-around effort. 

Tia Chang provided key contributions at the net with five kills and two blocks.

Setter Brooke Young guided the offence with 25 assists and six digs, while the backcourt was anchored by Julie Wong and Oke, who each recorded 16 digs. Veronika Cavojska also reached double-digit digs with 11.

The Lords will remain in the National Capital Region as Durham will take on the La Cité Coyotes on Sunday at 1 p.m.
