Salter throws no-hitter to earn first win of season

Box Score ETOBICOKE, ON – Welcoming the Lambton Lions to OCAA softball, the Durham Lords pick up their first win of the season by a 13-0 score with a no-hitter thrown by Morgan Salter (Battersea, ON).

A pair of big innings would give the Lords an insurmountable lead, beginning with a two RBI double from Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) in the top of the first. Redick would later score herself off a single from Jocelyn Shelton (Aylmer, ON). Durham added four more runs to close out the opening inning with a 6-0 lead.

Following a scoreless second inning, Grace Hearns hit a double that would send Natalie Clemens (Marmora, ON) and Mackenzie Williamson (Brooklin, ON) home to lead off an eventual seven-run third inning. With a 13-run lead through the top of the fifth, the game was called – awarding the defending OCAA champions their first win of the season.

Redick was perfect at the plate with three hits in as many at bats, scoring once and driving home three runs. Ryleigh Easton (Bowmanville, ON), Abi Suffel (Whitby, ON), Grace Hearns (Napanee, ON) Williamson and Shelton also recorded multi-hit games.

Salter pitched all 5.0 innings on the mound in her no-hitter performance, striking out seven batters and only surrendering one walk.

She last had a zero in the hits column on October 18, 2021 in a 14-0 win over Mohawk in which she pitched 4.1 innings to end off the regular season.

Durham is scheduled for a pair of neutral site games in North York on Sunday as they face the Seneca Sting at 1:30 PM and the Mohawk Mountaineers at 4:00 PM.

The Lords will be back home to host the Humber Hawks in a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday, September 14.
