Box Score NORTH YORK, ON – Durham turned a five-run deficit early in the game into a five-run victory, coming from behind to defeat the Seneca Sting 14-9.
Jocelyn Shelton (Aylmer, ON) singled in the bottom of the first to advance
Grace Hearns (Napanee, ON) home and open the scoring to give the Lords the lead. Seneca answered with four runs of their own in the second inning, but a run scored by
Abi Suffel (Whitby, ON) on a sacrifice fly cut the deficit to two.
It was a high-scoring third inning with the Sting scoring three runs before the Lords added two more to their total.
A solo home run from Seneca in the top of the fourth inning gave the Sting an 8-4 lead, but the Lords would slowly chip away at it as
Natalie Clemens (Marmora, ON) scored off a single hit by Hearns.
In the fifth inning, the Lords registered six runs to come from behind and take the lead. Suffel, Hearns, Clemens, Shelton,
Arianne Pollon (Tisdale, SK) and
Brynne Naworynski (Aurora, ON) all found their way home to give the Lords an 11-8 lead.
Bats would stay hot in the sixth as
Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) would score on an error before Clemens and Pollon scored on a triple hit by Hearns. Once trailing 7-2, the Lords came all the way back to win 14-9.
Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) started the game and pitched through the first two innings before
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) took the mound for the final five, striking out seven batters and only conceding two runs.
The Lords will be back on the diamond later this afternoon as they meet the Mohawk Mountaineers for the first time this season at 4:00 PM.
