Durham sweeps home doubleheader against Condors

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OSHAWA, ON – On Friday evening, the Durham Lords picked up four points as the women's softball team swept the visiting Conestoga Condors in their doubleheader.

With a 10-0 win in the first game of the doubleheader, the Lords finished off an opponent in five innings for the second time this season, with the first coming in a 13-0 win over Lambton.

Durham took an early lead in the top of the first when Abi Suffel (Whitby, ON) hit a three-run triple to send Ryleigh Easton (Bowmanville, ON), Jocelyn Shelton (Aylmer, ON) and Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) across home plate. The Lords added another trio of runs in the second when Natalie Clemens (Marmora, ON) and Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) scored on a double hit by Redick, who would score herself when Shelton hit a triple in the next at bat.

Following a scoreless third inning, the Lords extended their lead to nine with runs score by Oke, Clemens and Grace Hearns (Napanee, ON). Oke finished off the game in the fifth with a double that scored Mackenzie Williamson (Brooklin, ON) to give the Lords a double-digit lead through five innings.

Morgan Salter (Battersea, ON) was Durham's lone pitcher on the mound in the game, striking out 10 of 17 batters faced and only giving up two hits, while allowing zero runs.

The second game began with no runs through two innings, but Clemens and Kaylen Wilson (Pickering, ON) opened the scoring in the bottom of the third before Hearns put the Lords ahead by three.

Conestoga scored their first run of the evening in the top of the fifth inning as the batter reached first on an error, but Hearns responded in the bottom half of the inning with her second run of the game.

The Condors tried to claw back in the 6th inning, scoring another run to cut their deficit to two. But they were unable to score and the Lords would take the second game by a 4-2 score to sweep the doubleheader.

Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) faced 24 batters across 6.2 innings, before Redick finished the job with 1.1 innings pitched.

The Lords are on the road this weekend as they head to London to face the Fanshawe Falcons in a doubleheader with games beginning at 12:00 and 2:00 PM.

Following road trips to Lambton and St. Clair, Durham are back at home on Wednesday, September 28 as the Lords host the Mohawk Mountaineers.
