Box Score 2 LONDON, ON – Beginning a six-game road trip, the Lords played a doubleheader in London on Sunday afternoon against the Fanshawe Falcons and picked up a win to end the weekend.
Lords fell behind early at alumni Field as the Falcons stole home in the bottom of the second for their first run of the game before an RBI single doubled their lead.
An RBI single in the top of the fourth hit by
Jocelyn Shelton (Aylmer, ON) sent
Grace Hearns (Napanee, ON) across home plate to cut the deficit in half, but the Falcons scored again in the bottom half of the inning to make it a two-run game again.
Fanshawe would add two more runs in the sixth to defeat Durham by a 5-1 score, ending a three-game winning streak accumulated by the Lords.
Morgan Salter (Battersea, ON) pitched 5.0 innings, striking out nine of 20 batters faced.
The second half of the doubleheader saw bats on fire right from the start as the Lords took a 5-3 lead through the opening frame with Hearns, Shelton,
Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON),
Abi Suffel (Whitby, ON) and
Ryleigh Easton (Bowmanville, ON) crossing home plate.
Natalie Clemens (Marmora, ON) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the second to take a 6-3 lead, but the Lords would go scoreless until the sixth. In that time, Fanshawe chipped away at Durham's lead, eventually taking a 7-6 lead for themselves.
In the top of the sixth, a sacrifice fly from
Kaylen Wilson (Pickering, ON) sent Redick running home, and the Lords would score the winning run in the top of the seventh as
Brynne Naworynski (Aurora, ON) made her way home on a wild pitch to give the Lords an 8-7 win.
Eight different Lords recorded hits in the second game of the doubleheader, with Shelton and Naworynski each earning two.
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) struckout four batters over 3.0 innings, only conceding a single run.
Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) struckout two batters in 3.0 innings and Redick faced off against seven from the mound.
Durham's road trip will take them to Sarnia next weekend for a doubleheader against the Lambton Lions.
