Box Score 2 OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords picked up a pair of wins in a Wednesday evening doubleheader against the Mohawk Mountaineers at Durham Field.
Durham was on the scoreboard first in the first game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an early lead. With the bases loaded, Kaylen Wilson (Pickering, ON) hit a sacrifice fly to centre field, allowing the designated hitter Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) to score her sixth run of the season.
After advancing a base each on Wilson's sacrifice fly, Abi Suffel (Whitby, ON) and Ryleigh Easton (Bowmanville, ON) would cross home plate at the next at bat with a two RBI single from Arianne Pollon (Tisdale, SK).
Jocelyn Shelton (Aylmer, ON) added a fourth run in the game for the Lords on a sacrifice fly from Suffel in the bottom of the third running. Both teams would hold each other scoreless for the remainder of the game and the Lords came out on top with a 4-0 win.
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) went seven innings, striking out nine of 25 batters faced. Throwing 102 pitches, she only allowed two hits and only walked two batters in the entire game.
After a scoreless opening frame in the first game, both sides were quick to make their introduction on the scoreboard in the second half of the doubleheader. After Mohawk took a. 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Natalie Clemens (Marmora, ON) tied the game up in the bottom of the first, scoring on a sacrifice fly from Shelton.
Clemens was not done there, as she hit her second career home run in the bottom of the third. Hitting her first of the season, that would be the first time Clemens sent the ball over the fence since October 13, 2021 in an 8-1 win over Seneca at Durham Field.
A single from Shelton would send Grace Hearns (Napanee, ON) to score before Shelton would later slide home herself to give the Lords a 4-1 lead through three innings.
Mohawk scored a single run on a ground out in the fourth and hold the hosts scoreless through the fourth and fifth innings.
Bats were hot again for Durham in the sixth inning, adding two more runs from Easton and Kylie Schofield (Oshawa, ON). This would be enough to secure a 6-2 win for the Lords, beginning a winning streak of two games.
Redick pitched the first four innings, striking out four batters. Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) went on the mound for the final three innings, striking out six and giving up zero runs.
