Men's volleyball are back in win column after defeating Loyalist

OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords men's volleyball team find themselves back in the win column again following a win in four sets over the Loyalist Lancers on Bell Let's Talk night.

The Lords held off Loyalist in the first set, winning 25-19 before losing by an identical score in the second set. Tied at 24, the third would require extra serves to win by the required two points. A massive block at the net from Kyle Travis (Courtice, ON) put the Lords up by one and a ball-handling error on the part of the Lancers gave the hosts a 26-24 win to take the lead through three sets.

In the fourth set, Durham had a 20-11 lead and were seemingly ready to end the night. Loyalist had other ideas in mind, going on a 12-4 run to come within a single point. Michael Penney (Whitby, ON) smashed the ball over the net to take the set 25-23 and win the match 3-1.

Travis finished the night with 32 assists, five digs, four blocked shots and a service ace. Meanwhile, Penney had five kills on 11 total attempts and four blocked shots.

Josh Padmore (Hamilton, ON) led the team in kills with 10 on 17 attempts, also blocking two shots at the net. Tyler Jegen (Calgary, AB) was not far behind with eight kills, a service ace and a block.

Seven Lords recorded double-digit digs in the match. After Travis' team-leading five, Aidan Carne (Stoney Creek, ON) had four for himself.

Padmore finished the night as the team-leader in points with 12.0. Jegen also reached double-digit territory with 10.0.

The Lords are back in the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre (CRWC) on Saturday for a 3:00 PM match against the George Brown Huskies.
