PETERBOROUGH, ON - The Durham College women's rugby team have an opportunity to complete a third consecutive undefeated regular season on Sunday after defeating the Fleming Phoenix and Loyalist Lancers.
Kicking off the four match weekend, the Lords began the day against the host Fleming Phoenix. Through seven minutes of play, the Lords led 27-0 heading into the halftime break before adding another 20 in the second half for a 47-0 victory.
Emily Cooper (Guelph, ON) led the way offensively with four tries, while Sierra Persaud (Ajax, ON) scored three. Maya Austin (Ajax, ON) and Shantel Wray (Ajax, ON) each added one a piece.
In the second game, the Lords again started strong with a 24-0 lead before adding 17 more points in the second half for a 41-0 win over the Loyalist Lancers.
Cooper added another three to raise her total for the day to seven. Autumn Donnelly (Little Britain, ON), Emma Nagy (Brooklin, ON), Wray and Austin all scored one try in the match.
Persaud and Hayden Venedam (Port Perry, ON) were both accountable for kicking converts in the match, with Persaud succeeding on two and Venedam successfully kicking one.
The Lords go into Sunday with a 12-0 record on the season. Their final two matches of the regular season will be against the Algonquin Wolves (9-2-1) at 10:00 AM and the St. Lawrence Surge (10-2) at 12:00 PM.
