ETOBICOKE, ON - Earning a silver medal at the 2023 OCAA Women's Softball Championship, Durham College takes home its OCAA-leading 38th all-time medal in the sport.
Durham played in the gold medal round against the St. Clair Saints on Saturday, needing to win one of two potential games.
St. Clair found themselves ahead early, scoring nine runs in the first two innings. They consistently tacked on runs throughout the game en route to a 17-3 win and forcing a game two.
Grace Hearns (Napanee, ON) led the Lords, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs and one RBI.Â
In the second game, which would regardless be the final women's softball game of the season, the Saints scored first again but were limited to only one run in the first to innings with a solo home run.
The Saints saw their bats get hot after the third inning, hitting a second home run in the third inning and a third in the fourth.
Natalie Clemens (Marmora, ON) joined the home run hitting party for the Lords in the bottom of the fifth, hitting it over the fence with Ryleigh Easton (Bowmanville, ON) and Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) on base to make it a 6-3 ball game.
St. Clair added two more runs in the seventh inning to put the game away, winning gold by an 8-3 score.
Clemens went 1-for-2 at bat with one run and three RBI's.
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) had the start on the mound in her final game of OCAA eligibility, striking out two batters.
Two players on the Lords earned spots on the Championship All-Tournament Team - Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON) and Hearns.
Durham College end their women's softball season with a silver medal at provincials, as well as the 2023 CCSA National Championship.
