BARRIE, ON - The Durham College women's volleyball team played their first away match of the season on Friday evening, defeating the Georgian Grizzlies in a tightly contested five sets.
Set number one required extra serves, with Durham ultimately taking it 26-24. Georgian tied things up in the second bu a 25-21 score, before the Lords took the lead back with a third set win by an identical score.
In the fourth set, the Lords were looking to finish off the evening but the Grizzlies had other ideas, winning 27-25 to force a fifth and final set.
For the third time that night, the set was too close and requiring a win of two or more points, more serves were needed. Both sides would trade off points before the Lords won it 17-15 to remain undefeated through two matches.
Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON), the dual-sport athlete, made her collegiate volleyball debut with the women's softball season behind her. She made quite an impression, leading the way with 13 kills on 30 total attacks and finishing with 13 digs.
Chanel Ethier (Ottawa, ON), also a first-year player on a young Lords team, recorded 10 kills and three service aces with one blocked shot. Aislinn Pedersen () rounded out the trio of double-digit kills with 10 on 35 attempts.
Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) accounted for 40 of the 42 assists credited to the Lords on the night. Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) as outstanding at the net, blocking nine shots.
Nine blocked shots sets a career-high for the third year middle, with Larsen previously recording eight in her rookie season on February 23, 2022, also at Georgian College.
The Lords finish their weekend road trip in North Bay at Canadore College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
