TORONTO, ON - Durham could not score that coveted 25th point on Friday night as the men's volleyball team fell to the George Brown Huskies in three sets.
You could not ask for a closer first set as the Lords earned a 24-23 lead in the first set of the night, staring down a situation where they needed only one more point to make a statement and take an early lead in the match.Â
Unfortunately for the Lords, the Huskies tied it with a kill, took the lead on an attack error and won by two on another kill to take it 26-24.
Despite looking so strong in the opening frame, it was all Huskies in the second set which was evident in the score with the hosts taking the second set 25-16.
The Lords refused to go down without a fight, again leading late in a set with a 20-19 score in the third. George Brown just found a way to get the job done again with a 6-1 run to take it 25-21.
Tyler Jegen (Calgary, AB) and Will Doucet (Toronto, ON) tied as the team-leaders in points with 7.0 each. Both had seven kills on the night, with Jegen also adding a pair of digs.
Jonas Felix (Woodbridge, ON) and Kyle Travis (Courtice, ON) both saw some success from the service line, each hitting an ace. Travis also registered all 22 assists for the Lords.
Ravi Hunter (Brandon, MB) was the team-leader in digs with six.
The Lords will return to the court in the new year, beginning with a home match against the Canadore Panthers on Saturday, January 13 at 8:00 PM.
