TORONTO, ON - The Lords end the calendar year with three wins in their last four matches after defeating the George Brown Huskies in three sets to go into the holiday break.

After going back and forth to begin the opening set with a 4-4 score, the Lords went on a 8-1 run to more than double George Brown's tally and they didn't look back, cruising to a 25-15 win, which would be their largest set win of the evening.

The Huskies battled back in the second set, coming back from what was once a 21-17 deficit to force extra serves with a 24-24 score line. Scoring on the next play and needing to win by two, the Huskies had a win on their sights before Durham scored three unanswered to take it 27-25.

Durham didn't have much to worry about in the third set, regularly holding a lead of 6+ at any given time as they made it a short night, taking the third set 25-17 to complete the sweep.

The Lords balanced out their offence through several players who stepped up to carry the load, including Samantha Payne (West Kelowna, BC) and Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) who both finished the night with 11.0 points, as well as Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON) and her 10.0 points.

Payne posted nine kills and two blocked shots, while Larsen added six kills, four blocked shots and a service ace on the night. Oke recorded eight kills, one ace and one block, as well as being the team-leader in digs with nine.

Jessie Anatol (Ajax, ON) also stood out with five kills, one blocked shot and one ace for 7.0 points, with Jayde Smyth (Canmore, AB) matching her point total as she added six kills and a service ace.

Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) added another 24 assists to her season total.

Following the holidays, the Lords will host their annual Adidas Cup exhibition tournament from January 5-6, 2024. Durham will begin their weekend with an 11:00 AM match against Mount Saint Vincent University.

OCAA regular season action will return to the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre on Saturday, January 13 as the Lords host the Canadore Panthers at 6:00 PM.
