NORTH YORK, ON – The Durham Lords men's volleyball team win their third consecutive match with a 3-1 road win against the Seneca Sting.
Seneca won the opening set in a tightly contested 25-22 battle, but the Lords responded back with an identical score, although this time in their favour to tie up the match. The third set nearly saw the exact same result before an ace gave Seneca a 23rd point. Durham ultimately won the frame 25-23.
The fourth set would be the final one as the Lords put the match away with a 25-16 win, the largest margin in the match, to win it 3-1.
William Egan (Cobden, ON) and his 16.0 points on the night led the team offensively, recording 15 kills, seven digs and one service ace. Tyler Jegen (Calgary, AB) and Michael Penney (Whitby, ON) both pushed for double-digit points, with Jegen posting 10 kills, eight digs and two blocked shots for 12.0 points, while Penney had six kills and four blocked shots for 10.0 points.
Kyle Travis (Courtice, ON) had 41 assists on the night, tying his season-high. This was the third time this season he surpassed 40 and his second time in the last two matches.
Jacques Tournadre (Milton, ON) doubled his season-high digs with 20, while Nandor Gallo (Oshawa, ON) registered 13 after having 10 digs in his last three appearances combined.
After going into the holiday break slightly over .500 with a 6-5 record, the Lords have won three out of four matches since returning for the winter semester to improve to 9-6.
The Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre (CRWC) will be the site of one last regular season home game on Saturday at 3:00 PM against the Centennial Colts. The Lords will be celebrating their graduating seniors with a special pre-game ceremony.
