Lords win one in Connorvale Park doubleheader

ETOBICOKE, ON - On Tuesday evening, the Durham College women's softball team split their doubleheader at Connorvale Park with the Humber Hawks.

Game one of the evening started with a bang as the Hawks managed to grab an early lead with a single to centre field driving in a run and giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage, moments before a single to left field extended their lead to two.

The third inning marked a turning point in the game as the Lords launched an offensively hot inning.

Grace Hearns (Napanee, ON) doubled to centre field, driving in Kaleigh MacIntyre (Bowmanville, ON) and putting Durham on the board. Jessica Greene (Stratford, ON) followed up with a triple to right field to knot it all up at two.

Jocelyn Shelton (Aylmer, ON) would make contact to bring Greene home, giving the Lords a 3-2 lead. Shelton would later cross home and Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON) continued the offensive assault with a double to left field, driving in Redick and making it five runs scored in the inning.

Humber slowly chipped away at Durham's lead over the next three innings, eventually tying the game heading into the sixth inning.

Hearns reached first on an error and this was this difference maker as it allowed Natalie Clemens (Marmora, ON) to score the go-ahead run. This would ultimately be the winner.

All six runs in the game were scored by different players and Shelton went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Oke pitched the opening 4.0 innings, striking out three. Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) came in for relief for the final 3.0 innings, not allowing any runs from 15 batters faced.

Humber went ahead early in the second game of the doubleheader and never looked back, scoring seven runs on 11 hits to shutout the Lords 7-0.

Shelton and Redick picked up hits for the Lords at the plate.

Morgan Salter (Battersea, ON) struck out four batters in 4.0 innings pitched, while Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) struck out three and only conceded a single run in 2.0 innings.

The Lords return home for a Saturday afternoon doubleheader on September 30 against the St. Clair Saints at Babcock Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
