Durham edge out Loyalist in tight season opening contest

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - The Durham Lords opened their season with a thrilling 50-49 victory against the Loyalist Lancers.

The game's tight scoreline reflected a closely contested battle, with the Lords taking an early lead and managing to stay ahead despite the Lancers fighting until the end.

Durham's standout performance came in the third quarter, where they managed to outscore Loyalist 19-14, creating enough separation to withstand the Lancers' final surge.

Taige Matosas-Adderley led the way with 14 points, showcasing efficiency by hitting 6 of 11 shots from the field. Matosas-Adderley also contributed on the boards with four rebounds and was pivotal during Durham's crucial third-quarter run putting up nine points in the quarter.

Kailin Boyle also delivered a solid outing with 10 points and four rebounds. Boyle's hustle on both ends of the floor and her efforts to draw fouls were crucial in swinging the momentum back in Durham's favor during tense moments.

Onika Leveridge anchored the defensive efforts with a game-high 15 rebounds and one block, alongside her five assists. Leveridge's relentless work on the boards provided Durham with multiple second-chance opportunities, which proved critical in a low-scoring affair.

The Lords are back in action for their home opener on Tuesday, October 22 against the Seneca Sting at 6:00 PM.
