OSHAWA, Ont. - Lords fans and their furry best friends braved the wet conditions for Bark at the Park night, where the women's softball team picked up two more wins over the Sheridan Bruins to improve to 22-0 on the season.
In the first game, Durham jumped out to a commanding lead, scoring three runs in the first inning and never looking back, defeating Sheridan 11-1 in a six-inning contest. The Lords' offence was led by a balanced attack, with five different players contributing extra-base hits.
Chelsea Oke pitched 5.0 innings, striking out three batters and only allowing a single run. Hannah Oke came in for the final inning, striking out two of three batters faced.
Jessica Benz was hot at the plate, hitting 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Jessica Greene posted an identical stat line at the plate. Peyton Jones and Vanessa Ng joined Benz and Greene in multi-run territory in the game.
The second half of the doubleheader saw Durham's offence erupt for 16 runs in just three innings, defeating Sheridan 16-1. The game saw the Lords amass ten hits and take advantage of nine walks issued by Sheridan's pitchers.
Durham scored in every inning, including a ten-run third inning that sealed the victory.
Peyton Jones got the win while striking out six of 15 batters faced. Greene was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of runs and an RBI. Ultimately, 11 Lords scored runs in the game.
The Lords will wrap up their regular season on Monday night at Babcock Field, hosting the Humber Hawks for a doubleheader at 6/8 PM in a battle of the top two teams in the OCAA. Arrive early as we will celebrate our graduating seniors before the first game.
