OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords men's volleyball team delivered an inspired performance at home against the Georgian Grizzlies, but ultimately fell short in a five-set battle (25-21, 18-25, 24-26, 25-21, 11-15).
Heading into the The Lords now hold a 7-4 record, while Georgian improved to 10-1.
Durham came out strong, capturing the first set with a blistering .483 hitting percentage. Georgian countered in the second and third sets, edging out a close 26-24 win in the third.
The Lords roared back in the fourth set, fuelled by the dynamic duo of Tyler Jegen and William Egan, before falling just short in the decisive fifth set.
Jegen and Egan finished the night with 12.0 points each, with Jegen recording 12 kills and five digs while Egan had 10 kills, two digs, one service aces and a solo block.
Cory Pharand had a big night, finishing with 11 kills, one service ace and one block for 13.0 points, leading the team offensively.
The Lords impressed with a .302 overall hitting percentage and 51 kills. Kyle Travis ran an efficient offence with 46 assists, while Jonas Felix anchored the defence with 15 digs.
