OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College community, past and present, was well represented last week as Baseball Oshawa named its All-Decade Team for the period of 2010-2019.
Seven honourees had strong ties to Durham College and its men's baseball program, including Ken Babcock and Scott Cawker, who were honoured as coaches, Alec Brown as a left-handed pitcher, Sam Cawker as a catcher, Aaron McQuillen as a centre fielder, Jordan D'Amico as a second basemen and Connor May as a right fielder.
Speaking on connections to DC, Babcock served as the director of athletics & recreation for 36 years, helping to make Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium a hotspot for baseball where the Lords hosted a number of provincial and national championships.
Scott Cawker was named the third head coach in the history of Durham's men's baseball program in 2022 and has led the team to an OCAA bronze medal since.
Brown pitched for the Lords between 2015 and 2018, earning OCAA pitcher of the year honours in his final season after registering a 5-1 record with 38 strikeouts and a 2.12 ERA.
Sam Cawker competed with the Lords for a pair of seasons in 2018 and 2019, batting a .309 average with 38 hits and 24 runs in his career.
McQuillen was a member of the Lords in 2012 during CIBA competition and made the move with the squad to the OCAA for the first two seasons in the new league where he was a league all-star in the inaugural season.
D'Amico played three seasons for the Lords, competing in 2015 and 2016 before returning in 2019. In his return, he ranked second in the OCAA in runs scored and was named a championship all-star.
May played for three seasons between 2017 and 2019, hitting a .283 average with 34 runs scored and 41 hits in his career. He also pitched a total of 32.1 innings as a Lord.
Fans of Lords baseball can begin marking down dates on their calendars for the 2024 season. The Lords open the season on Friday, September 6 in Toronto against George Brown and will host their home opening doubleheader on Tuesday, September 10 against Seneca.
