KINGSTON, Ont. – In a highly anticipated rematch of last year's OCAA women's rugby sevens gold medal game, the St. Lawrence Surge snapped Durham College's remarkable 40-game win streak with a 21-17 victory over the Lords.
Durham's last loss in OCAA competition was back in 2021, in the gold medal game against the Humber Hawks. Since then, the Lords had gone undefeated for two and a half seasons, securing back-to-back perfect gold medal runs in 2022 and 2023.
Despite the setback, the Lords bounced back with two dominant shutout wins to finish the weekend defeating Loyalist (50-0), and Fleming (52-0), to start a new win-streak.
Durham opened the weekend defeating Algonquin (46-0).
The Lords trail St. Lawrence by one game, as the Surge remain undefeated this season. The two teams are set for a crucial rematch in Oshawa on Sunday, October 6.
Next up for Durham is a set of three games on Saturday in Cambridge, where the Lords will face Conestoga (9 a.m.), Seneca (11:45 a.m.), and Humber (1:15 p.m.).
