OTTAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords faced a difficult challenge as they took on the undefeated Algonquin Wolves in a high-energy matchup. Despite a determined effort, the Lords fell short, losing 75-42 in the nation's capital.
The #2-ranked squad in Canada took a commanding lead early, scoring 26 points through the opening 10 minutes and would lead 44-23 by halftime.
Durham scored a game-high 15 points in the third quarter but were only able to claw back one-point from the deficit. The #2 team in the country held the Lords to four points in the fourth quarter, stifling any chance at a comeback.
Onika Leveridge led the team in points with 12, adding a team-leading nine rebounds to her stat line.
Newcomer Sarah Laplante recorded 11 points, three steals and a pair of assists on the night.
Defensively, the Lords recorded four steals and forced 12 turnovers from Algonquin. Despite their efforts to close the gap, the hosts efficiency, shooting 44.4% from the field and 47.4% from three, proved too much to overcome.
The Lords are scheduled for an exhibition game in Ottawa on Saturday against the La Cité Coyotes at 1:00 PM.
Durham will return to regular season action at home on Tuesday, January 28 at 6:00 PM against the Centennial Colts.
