OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team opened their 2025–26 OCAA campaign in dominant fashion Friday night, sweeping the visiting Loyalist Lancers in straight sets at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre.
The match also served as Durham's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game, with the team donning pink-themed warm-ups and gear in support of the cause.
From the opening serve, Durham set the tone with relentless offensive pressure and crisp execution across all rotations.
The Lords hit an impressive .345 attack percentage as a team, racking up 26 kills and 13 service aces in the victory.
Leading the way was Elizabeth McFarland, who delivered a statement performance with 12 kills on 17 attempts and a blistering .647 hitting percentage.
Veterans Tia Chang and Jessie Buck each added four kills, while Veronika Cavojska contributed a balanced effort with three kills, one ace, and a solo block.
At the service line, Kya Gordon powered Durham's momentum with a match-high six aces, while setters Brooke Young and Khasana Gordon combined for 22 assists to keep the offence flowing smoothly.
Defensively, the Lords were steady, allowing Loyalist minimal scoring opportunities and limiting the visitors to just a .059 attack percentage across three sets.
The win gives Durham a 1–0 record to start the season.
Durham will look to carry the momentum forward when they return to action next weekend, travelling to Barrie and North Bay to take on the Georgian Grizzlies and Canadore Panthers.
