OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's volleyball team split their results this weekend, falling to the Algonquin Wolves on Friday before defeating the La Cité Coyotes in a five-set thriller on Saturday.
Durham pushed Algonquin throughout the night, falling 25–23, 25–23, 25–16 in a match that stayed tight through the opening two sets.
Will Doucet led the way with five kills on 11 attempts, finishing with an efficient hitting percentage of .455 and giving Durham a reliable option down the middle.
Jonas Felix added three kills, three digs and a block, while Jack Hendry provided four kills to help keep the offence moving.
Cory Pharand and Sidney Stuart each added two kills, with Stuart also contributing an ace and a block during Durham's strongest stretches.
Setter Jalen Arias guided the attack with twelve assists, spreading the ball around as the Lords totalled 21 kills on the night.
Durham also registered three aces and collected nine digs, highlighted by the defensive efforts of Felix, Hendry and Pharand. Stuart and Felix each recorded a block.
On Saturday, Durham battled through momentum swings and pressure points to earn a five-set win at home, taking the match 26-24, 22-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-12.
Felix continued to be a steady presence, leading Durham with 12 kills while adding seven digs and two aces.
Pharand and Owen Lunn were both efficient, with Pharand putting down six kills and Lunn finishing with five while adding three solo blocks. Will Doucet chipped in five kills of his own, helping spread the offence in key rotations.
Arias was sharp all afternoon, finishing with 30 assists and adding four kills on well-timed dumps. He also contributed defensively with four digs and one block, while also securing the winning point for the Lords.
Durham's attack totalled 47 kills with a .277 efficiency, and the Lords closed the fifth set with calm execution.
Heading up to Peterborough on Wednesday, the Lords return to action against the Fleming Phoenix at 8:00 PM.
