OSHAWA, Ont. - The women's volleyball team swept two opponents at home this weekend, defeating the Algonquin Wolves and La Cité Coyotes under 24 hours apart.
Durham delivered a composed and confident performance on home court on Friday, sweeping Algonquin in straight sets to cap off a strong night at the CRWC. The Lords controlled the rhythm early and never let go of their momentum, taking the match 25-17, 25-18, 25-21.
Chelsea Oke led the way with 10 kills and added seven digs and two blocks, while Elizabeth McFarland was efficient and steady, finishing with eight kills on an impressive .533 hitting percentage and contributing 11 digs.
Jessie Buck chipped in another six kills and two blocks, helping the Lords maintain pressure at the net. Brooke Young guided the offence with 21 assists, and Veronika Cavojska added six kills and a dozen digs.
At the service line, Durham found key points throughout the match, recording 12 aces and using those runs to build separation when they needed it.
Their defensive play was just as sharp, with 54 digs as a team, ensuring Algonquin had few clean looks in transition.
Durham finished business on Saturday, sweeping La Cité in straight sets and keeping control from the opening serve onward.
The Lords came out strong in the first set, winning key points in transition and building an early cushion on their way to a comfortable 25-13 result.
La Cité pushed harder in the second frame, but Durham's ball control and poise carried them through a tight middle stretch before they closed it out 25-17.
The final set mirrored the opener, with Durham settling back into a smooth rhythm and finishing the match 25-13.
The Lords' offence was sharp throughout the afternoon, led by a balanced attack that kept La Cité on its heels.
Kya Gordon powered the group with nine kills, while Cavojska and Buck added efficient offence on the wings, including a perfect seven-for-seven performance from Buck.
Setters Young and Erin Black guided the tempo and distributed the ball with confidence, combining for 28 assists.
On the defensive side, Chelsea Oke anchored the backcourt with seven digs, and Durham was strong at the net with four timely blocks that helped break up La Cité's momentum.
Durham have a bit of a break before going back on the road on Wednesday, November 26th to take on the Fleming Phoenix at 6:00 PM.
