OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords closed out their final home match of the fall semester in style, sweeping the St. Lawrence Surge in straight sets in their first meeting at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre (CRWC).
In front of a lively Saturday crowd at the CRWC, the Lords controlled the pace from the opening serve and never let the visitors settle in, winning 25-14, 25-13, 25-19.
Durham's offence ran smoothly all afternoon, with strong ball distribution and balanced scoring across the lineup.
Elizabeth McFarland led the way with 12 kills and four solo blocks for 17.0 points.
Lyndsay Boon was efficient and steady, contributing six kills without an error while adding two blocks of her own.
Chelsea Oke continued her consistent play on the outside, picking up seven kills, nine digs, and a pair of aces in a solid two-way performance.
The Lords' setting unit kept things organized, as Brooke Young and Erin Black combined for 30 assists. Young added four aces and was particularly effective running tempo in the opening two sets, helping Durham establish early leads.
Defensively, Veronika Cavojska anchored the back row with 13 digs, while the group as a whole out-dug St. Lawrence 40-35 and controlled first contact throughout the match.
Durham's blocking game was another major factor, finishing with seven solo blocks and consistently forcing the Surge to adjust their attack.
The sweep sends the Lords into the winter break on a high note, closing out the semester with another strong home performance and positioning themselves well for the push ahead in January.
Durham will host the 2026 Adidas Cup from January 3-4 at the CRWC. Their first match is at 11:00 AM on January 3 against the Mohawk Mountaineers.
