OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College women's volleyball is welcoming a new setter to the court. Emma Cabral has officially signed with the Lords, bringing her competitive spirit and steady hands to the program ahead of the upcoming season.
Hailing from Milton, Ontario, Cabral arrives in Oshawa with collegiate experience already under her belt. "I am very excited to become a Lord," she said. "Durham has the program I am looking for and they also have an amazing athletics program."
Before choosing Durham, Cabral spent time with the St. Clair Saints, where she contributed to a pair of OCAA silver-medal finishes.
Her most memorable moment came during the 2024-25 campaign, when her team clinched a semifinal victory that she describes as a highlight of her playing career. That experience has helped shape her into a poised and reliable setter, attributes the Lords are eager to add to their roster.
"We're excited to welcome Emma to the DC family," said Head Coach Tony Clarke. "She brings valuable experience, a strong understanding of the setter position and a competitive mindset that will complement our group well. Emma has already competed at a high level in this league, and we believe her leadership, composure and ability to run an offence will make an immediate impact in our gym."
Cabral said the decision to join Durham College stemmed from a desire for both academic and athletic growth. After exploring her options, she felt that Durham offered the right combination. "I chose Durham College because I was looking for a change in academics and athletics," she said. "I have been looking into the school and everything just fell into place."
Standing 5-foot-9, Cabral elite court vision and leadership to the setter position. Her previous success at the collegiate level signals her readiness to step into the fast-paced OCAA East and help the Lords continue their tradition of excellence.
As preseason approaches, Cabral is focused on building chemistry with her new teammates and adapting to head coach Tony Clarke's system. With her experience and enthusiasm, she is poised to make an immediate impact on the floor. "I am excited to meet everyone and get started," Cabral said.
The 2026-27 OCAA women's volleyball schedule will be announced later in June.
