Lords Sign Alberta Libero Jeanna Macatangay

OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College women's volleyball is welcoming a new face to its program, announcing the signing of libero Jeanna Macatangay. The Drumheller, Alberta native joins the Lords with a winning pedigree and a determination to keep growing in both sport and academics.

Macatangay comes to Durham after a successful run with Drumheller Valley Secondary School, where she helped lead the team to back-to-back Alberta Schools' Athletic Association (ASAA) AA South Central Zone Championships and a Golden Hills School Division League title.

For Macatangay, Durham stood out as the place where her passion for volleyball and her academic goals could come together.

"I chose this college because it gives me the opportunity to continue playing volleyball while studying in the Protection, Security and Investigation program," she said. "Volleyball has been a big part of my life, and I'm excited to keep competing while working toward a career in security and investigation."

Her commitment to both sides of student life made her a strong fit for a program that values balance. The Lords' staff sees her defensive instincts and work ethic as assets that will strengthen the team's backcourt.

"Jeanna is the kind of student-athlete we look for in our program," said Head Coach Tony Clarke. "She's coming in with strong defensive instincts, a competitive mindset and a willingness to put in the work every day. We're excited to see how she develops in our environment and what she'll bring to our culture on and off the court."

Macatangay's volleyball résumé includes stints with the DVSS Sr. Dynos, Jr. Bronco's Volleyball Club and DCV Smash.

She brings a steady presence in serve receive and coverage, anchored by a simple philosophy. "I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come," she said, quoting Michael Jordan. "This means that success comes from dedication and effort. I relate to this through volleyball because it takes a lot of practice and commitment to improve. This quote reminds me that if I keep working hard toward my goals, the results will follow."

With her competitive drive and team-first approach, Macatangay is excited to get started in the green and gold. She'll enter her first season focused on learning from veteran players and making an immediate impact on defence, all while beginning her studies.

The 2026-27 OCAA women's volleyball schedule is set to be announced later this month.
