SARNIA, Ont. - The women's basketball season came to an end for the Durham Lords with a 67-42 loss to the Lambton Lions in the OCAA qualifiers.
The hosts took a big lead early in the game, outscoring Durham 20-9 in the first quarter. The Lords bounced back in the second quarter, nearly doubling their first quarter total with 17 points while holding the Lions to only 10.
Despite cutting the deficit to four by halftime, Lambton was firing from all areas in the third courter to extend their lead to 19 and finished the job in the fourth quarter.
Emma Bergen finished the afternoon with 10 points and eight rebounds, battling inside against Lambton's tough defence. Bergen was active on the glass, pulling down three offensive rebounds while also adding a steal and an assist.
Taige Matosas-Adderley contributed 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting while recording four steals and two boards. Onika Leveridge was a force on the boards, securing 11 rebounds and adding five points.
Telia Campbell provided defensive energy with three steals and a block for the Lords.
Defensively, the Lords recorded 11 steals and held Lambton to just 33.8% shooting from the field, but the home team capitalized on Durham's giveaways, scoring 35 points off turnovers. Durham scored more than half of their points in the paint, totaling 22 on the day.
With the loss, the season has come to an end for the Lords.
