OSHAWA, Ont. – Peyton Jones of the women's softball team and
Mark Stoop of the men's basketball team were named the Durham College athletes of the year on Thursday night in an awards-filled evening celebrating hundreds of athletes, coaches, trainers and staff to end the 2024-25 varsity season.
Jones helped lead the Lords to yet another OCAA championship title in women's softball and was well-decorated along the way. Jones was named the OCAA women's softball's player of the year, rookie of the year and championship MVP, while also earning spots on the all-rookie team and among the first team all-stars. Additionally, she was named the championship MVP at the CCSA national championship. Jones finished the season with a .480 batting average, 32 runs and six home runs, leading the league in the latter category, as well as in doubles and RBI's.
Stoop was a major contributor in a successful season which saw the Lords win the OCAA men's basketball championship and take home silver at the CCAA national championship. Stoop averaged 11 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks per game, earning a prestigious CCAA All-Canadian award. He was also named OCAA men's basketball east division player of the year, a first team all-star, OCAA championship MVP and CCAA championship second team all-star.
Amber Edgerton earned Female Freshman Athlete of the Year honours after a dominant season in women's rugby sevens, placing third in the OCAA in total points with 125 and second in tries scored with 25. The OCAA recognized Edgerton as the women's rugby sevens rookie of the year and a championship all-star, as well as rewarding her with a spot on the all-rookie team.
Rashane Smith was named the "David Stewart" Male Freshman Athlete of the Year. Smith was an OCAA men's basketball east division second team all-star and member of the all-rookie team for the 2024-25 season. He finished the season averaging 10.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.

Erik Smith, were recognized for their leadership on and off the diamond this season with the "Bonnie Ginter-Brown" Leadership Award.
