OSHAWA, Ont. - Owen Mailhot joins the varsity golf team at Durham College, excited to begin competing this fall.
Mailhot joins the Lords after finishing his advanced diploma in Professional Golf Management - Business Administration from Humber Polytechnic.
"I chose Durham College because of the atmosphere with the other guys on the team," said Mailhot. "Everyone is joking around and having fun on the course, but still has the seriousness of wanting to get better."
Mailhot attended Donald A. Wilson Secondary School in Whitby, where he played for the golf team for two years.
During that time, Mailhot experienced his all-time favourite moment: winning a tournament on the Maple Leaf Junior Tour at Grey Silo Golf Course in Waterloo.
"The win was memorable because of how I won and the validation afterwards, knowing the feeling of all the hard work I put in had paid off," said Mailhot.
In addition to his success on the golf course, Mailhot has also excelled in the classroom. He made the honour roll in grade 12, as well as in all three years at Humber.
With his passion for the sport and the support of his new teammates, Mailhot is confident that his time at Durham will be a valuable and rewarding experience.
"Owen brings the king of work ethic and enthusiasm that we value in this program," said head coach Lucas Pichl. "With his competitive background and strong academic track record, he's a great fit for our culture both on and off the course. We're excited to have him this fall."
As Mailhot transitions to competing against OCAA competition in the Lords' green and gold, he's excited to be a part of a program with a strong winning culture.
Mailhot will study in the Sport Business Management program at Durham this fall.
