OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College Athletics is thrilled to announce the commitment of Colby Hercia as he will compete with the varsity golf team beginning this September.

Hercia, who is from Oshawa, Ontario, is soon to be a graduate of O'Neill Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

He has spent his whole life playing competitive hockey with the Oshawa Minor Generals and also spent two years playing Double-A hockey in the Lakeshore League.

Hercia has always been a multi-sport athlete, though, and is now prepared to focus on his golf game.

"I came second in my first golf tournament this year and came close to winning a few others last year during my first year of playing in tournaments," said Hercia.

Hercia's most memorable moment on the golf course came when he got an ace from 200 yards for an eagle at his home course.

"This year is the first year I'm starting to take golf a little more seriously than in previous years as my minor hockey career finished this year."

Hercia's sister, Chloe, is a student-athlete at Durham College, competing with the women's soccer team, and she was a key factor in his decision to attend Durham College.

"I've only heard great things about the school and about their athletics program," Hercia said.

Colby is excited about his future at Durham College and looks forward to competing with the golf team this fall.

He will be studying in Durham's Mechanical Engineering Technician program when he enrolls in September.
