OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's rugby team has announced the signing of Devonne Henry, a 6-foot-2 winger and fullback from Whitby.
Henry joins the Lords with a decorated rugby resume, most recently playing for the U23 Ontario Blues in the Coast to Coast Cup.Â
He also earned a gold medal at the 2024 Canadian Rugby Championships with the Ontario Blues and was invited to the U20 Canadian National Team camp in year
Henry played his high school rugby at Donald A. Wilson, graduating in 2022. The Oshawa Vikings talent would then continue his studies at Wilfred Laurier University.Â
John Watkins, head coach of the Lords men's rugby team, is thrilled to welcome a player of Henry's caliber to the program.Â
"Devonne is an exciting addition to our program," said Watkins. "Having competed at such a high level within the Ontario system, we look forward to his contributions to the program."
When asked about his decision to choose Durham College, Henry mentioned the proximity to his home and the presence of familiar faces.
"Staying close to home and having a bunch of friends here definitely played a role in my decision," said Henry. "I also have a lot of respect for the coaching staff."
With the signing of Henry, the Lords are strengthening their roster and positioning themselves for a successful season.Â
Henry will be studying in the General Arts & Science program when September rolls around.
The Lords will open their season at home on Sunday, September 14 when the Sheridan Bruins come to town. The match at Thompson Rugby Park will begin at 1:00 PM.
