OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham Lords men's soccer team earned a gritty 2–1 victory over the George Brown Huskies on Wednesday night, scoring late to earn the three points.
It was the visitors who struck first, converting a penalty kick in the third minute to grab an early lead. Durham regrouped quickly and found the equalizer in the 27th minute when Ariel Muanza buried a chance to level the match.
The contest remained tightly contested through much of the second half, with both sides generating opportunities.
Durham's persistence paid off late when Nathan Blowers delivered the decisive goal in the 89th minute, finishing a setup from Zachery Hamedi to send the home crowd into celebration.
Goalkeeper Ryan Sukovski was sharp when called upon, making three saves to preserve the result. The Lords managed nine shots and controlled much of the midfield tempo, keeping George Brown at bay after the early strike.
Durham have a quick break before returning to the pitch in Kingston on Saturday as the Lords will face the St. Lawrence Surge at 3:15 PM.
