OSHAWA, Ont. - Peyton Jones of the women's softball team and Evan Torres of the men's baseball team have been named the Durham College student-athletes of the week for the period ending September 7, 2025.
Jones, a Paramedic student, picked up where she left off last season as she went 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs and seven RBI's in a 15-4 win over the St. Clair Saints in the first game of the doubleheader. Her hits included a home run and a triple. In the second game, Jones pitched a complete game - going 7.0 innings and striking out seven batters while only giving up two hits. In a doubleheader on Sunday at Lambton, Jones went 4-for-8 at the plate across both games, adding another two RBI's.
Torres, a Music Business student, led the team in runs on opening weekend with three runs scored from three hits on 10 at-bats. He stood out especially in Saturday's game against Fanshawe when the designated hitter played a significant role in Durham's late game offensive surge. In addition, he was one of three Lords to steal a base in the game.
The women's softball team are on the road again this Thursday as they take on Sheridan, before returning to Babcock Field for their home opener on Saturday in a doubleheader against Fanshawe.
The men's baseball team are back in action next weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday at Fanshawe in London before travelling up to Sarnia for a single game against Lambton on Sunday.
