OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's volleyball team delivered a spirited performance Wednesday night, pushing the OCAA East's top-ranked Seneca Sting in a heated four-set match at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
The opening frame set the tone for the night, with both teams trading extended rallies and momentum swings before Seneca edged out a 29-27 decision in extra serves. Durham responded well in the second, staying composed in late points and closing out a 25-22 set to level the match.
Seneca regained the advantage in the third, capitalizing on a strong stretch midway through the set, before the fourth once again went down to the wire. The Lords stayed within striking distance throughout, but Seneca closed the door late to secure the 27-25 result.
Durham's defensive effort stood out against one of the most efficient attacks in the province. The Lords recorded 45 digs and 12 total blocks, consistently extending points and forcing Seneca to work for its offence.
Owen Lunn led the way at the net with five solo blocks, while Will Doucet and Ryan McGilvray each added three blocks.
Offensively, Doucet paced the Lords with 17.0 points on 10 kills, adding six digs and four service aces. Jonas Felix contributed 11.0 points and eight digs, while McGilvray finished with 10.0 points and five digs.
Jalen Arias directed the offence with 31 assists, helping Durham spread the ball and remain competitive in extended sequences.
The Lords head to Kingston on Saturday, January 31 for a 3 p.m. meeting with the St. Lawrence Surge.
