OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham earned a hard-fought 67-64 win over the Georgian Grizzlies on Wednesday night in women's basketball, pulling away late in a tightly contested matchup.
The Lords settled in early after a Georgian three to open the game, building a six-point lead by the end of the first quarter.
Both teams traded baskets in the second, with Durham maintaining a narrow advantage heading into halftime by a 40-35 score.
The hosts created some separation in the third quarter behind strong defensive pressure and efficient shooting, extending the lead to as many as 14 points.
Georgian responded in the fourth, cutting the deficit and tying the game midway through the period before Durham closed out the contest with timely stops and baskets in the final minute.
Sarah-Jane Laplante led the way offensively for the Lords, finishing with a game-high 27 points while knocking down five three-pointers. She also added three steals and two rebounds in a strong all-around performance.
Destinee Archer provided a major spark off the bench, contributing 13 points on efficient shooting, including several key baskets in the fourth quarter.
Telia Campbell added 11 points and a team-high eight assists, helping guide the offence and keep the ball moving.
Camryn Wood was dominant on the glass, pulling down 17 rebounds to go along with two points and a pair of assists, while anchoring Durham's interior presence.
Beatrice Johnson chipped in six points and provided steady minutes in the paint, and Kathy Orellana added eight points, including two three-pointers.
As a team, Durham shot 38.6% from the field and 39.1% from three-point range, while recording 23 assists on 27 made baskets.
The Lords also held an edge in rebounds, 41-36, and outscored Georgian 27-2 in bench points.
Durham will wrap up their regular season at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre on Friday at 6 p.m. as the Lords host the George Brown Huskies for Culture on the Court and Senior's Night.
