Free throws make the difference in regular season finale

OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham dropped a narrow 48-43 decision to the George Brown Huskies on Friday night at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre in a tightly contested OCAA matchup.

The visitors opened the game with an early three-pointer, but Durham settled in quickly and kept the first quarter close, trailing just 17-16 after 10 minutes. The Lords found their rhythm in the second quarter, using strong bench play and steady defence to take a 30-28 lead into halftime.

Both teams struggled to score coming out of the break, with the third quarter turning into a defensive battle.

Durham held George Brown to just six points in the frame, but managed only four of their own, leaving the score tied at 34-34 heading into the final quarter.

Durham briefly pulled ahead midway through the final quarter following a three-pointer from Destinee Archer, but George Brown responded at the free-throw line in the final minutes to secure the win.

Kathy Orellana led the Lords offensively with 11 points, adding four steals and a pair of rebounds in 17 minutes of action.

Archer finished with eight points and eight rebounds, providing energy on both ends of the floor, while Telia Campbell contributed eight points and a team-high five assists.

Camryn Wood recorded a team-high 10 rebounds and five steals, anchoring Durham's defensive effort throughout the game.

As a team, Durham held George Brown to 25.5% shooting from the field and forced 23 turnovers, keeping the contest close until the final buzzer. The Lords also received a strong contribution from their bench, which outscored the visitors 26-7.

The Lords will hit the road next weekend for the 2026 OCAA Women's Basketball Championship qualifiers. An opponent, date and time is to be determined.
