ETOBICOKE, Ont. – Durham's season came to an end in men's volleyball on Saturday afternoon as the Lords travelled to Humber Polytechnic for an OCAA Championship qualifier, falling in straight sets to the Hawks.
Durham came out composed in the opening set, trading points early and keeping pressure on Humber from the service line. The Lords battled through several long rallies and stayed within striking distance late before the hosts edged ahead to take the set 25-22.
In the second, Humber found a rhythm offensively, but Durham continued to compete point-for-point through the middle stretch. The Lords generated momentum with improved defensive coverage and transition swings, yet Humber closed the set 25-19.
The third set was Durham's most efficient offensively. The Lords hit .200 as a team in the frame, recording 11 kills to push Humber throughout. Despite the late surge, the home side sealed the match with a 25-20 win to end Durham's season.
Jonas Felix led the Durham attack with eight kills on 27 attempts, adding six digs for 8.0 points. Ryan McGilvray also produced 8.0 points, finishing with six kills and two service aces while contributing five digs.
Owen Lunn was efficient in limited swings, recording four kills on seven attempts for a .571 hitting percentage and 5.0 points. Shane Poleon added two kills and a block, while Will Doucet chipped in a kill and a service ace to go along with eight digs.
At setter, Jalen Arias dished out 19 assists and added a service ace and six digs, guiding a Durham offence that finished with 24 kills and four aces on the afternoon.
As a team, the Lords totalled 34 digs and two blocks, continuing to battle defensively in extended rallies and closed the season with a competitive effort on the road.
