OSHAWA, Ont. – Brier Kaake (Whitby, Ont.) of the women’s volleyball team has been named the Durham College student-athlete of the week presented by Subway.
The sport management major was named a first-team all-star prior to the OCAA championship a few weeks ago, which earned her a spot in the volleyball all-star game hosted by Durham College over the weekend.
She picked up six digs in the all-star game, which the East All-Stars won 3-1 over the West All-Stars. Participating in the skills competition, the libero won the serving challenge over Georgian’s Katharyn Avery after numerous attempts to break a tie between the duo. Kaake was also a fan-favourite in the hardest spike challenge for her creativity, losing in the final round to Humber’s Breanna Golding.
The Durham College athlete of the week awards are presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
