Durham College Athletics

OSHAWA, Ont. – Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) of the women's volleyball team and Julian Hinckson Jr. (Ajax, Ont.) of the men's basketball team have been named Durham College student-athletes of the week for the period ending January 7.
                                  
Joensen, a second-year business student, was named a tournament all-star at Durham College's 30^th annual Adidas Cup over the weekend after helping the team finish third overall. The Lords opened round robin play with 3-2 wins over both Cambrian and Sherbrooke before defeating the Canadore Panthers 3-0 in their quarter-final match on Saturday. Mohawk then dropped Durham in straight sets in the semifinal, sending them to the third-place game, which they won in a rematch against Cambrian.
 
This week the basketball teams open the second half of their season at Seneca on Friday night, while the volleyball teams return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
 
The Durham College athlete of the week award is presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
