Durham comeback falls short against St. Lawrence
OCAA Women's Basketball: St. Lawrence defeated Durham 79-61
KINGSTON, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team could not overcome a 51-26 halftime deficit as they dropped a 79-61 decision to the St. Lawrence Vikings.
After only scoring nine points in the second quarter, the Lords broke out of their offensive slump by scoring 28 in the third. However, the green and gold could not keep the same pace in the final ten minutes as the Vikings improved to 2-0 on the season.
The Lords fought hard to get back in the game and cut the lead to just 11, but it seemed as if they were up against the sixth man the entire night with three players fouling out.
2012 OCAA player of the year Lacey Knox scored 24 points for the Vikes, but was held to just nine in the second half. Knox put down 40 points in St. Lawrence's opening victory over Georgian.
The Lords scoring attack was well-balanced with
Kauri LaFontaine leading the way with 15 points.
Kelsey Hare registered 14 while
Kate Mowat and
Kayla Marshall had 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Lords are 1-1 in conference play to start the season and will be up against the three-time OCAA champion Algonquin Thunder on Friday night. Tip-off at the CRWC is at 6 p.m. The Thunder are 1-0 this season after a 62-37 victory over George Brown.
