OCAA Men's Soccer: Durham defeated St. Lawrence 4-0
OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's soccer team opened their season in spectacular fashion defeating St. Lawrence College 4-0 at Vaso's Field on Friday night.
The Lords opened the game deadlocked in a defensive battle that saw the game enter halftime at a 0-0 tie. 2012 OCAA All-Star
Duncan Mitchell (Oshawa, Ont.) and fellow defender
Kyle Woods (Whitby, Ont.) showcased a strong backline as both teams fought for that first goal.
The Lords entered the second half with renewed energy exhibiting outstanding team passing and success from set pieces. The team was led by 2012 OCAA All-Star
Marco Trotta (Oshawa, Ont.) who scored two of the teams four second half goals. The two goals continue the torrid scoring pace that Trotta began in his 2012 campaign which saw him score four goals in five games.
Other goal scorers for the Lords included Kashiff DeJong (Ajax, Ont.) and
Matthew Sutton (Toronto, Ont.). This was the first goal for both players as a Durham Lord.
In his OCAA debut with the Lords, goaltender
Michael Ashfield (Whitby, Ont.) earned the shutout.
The Campus Cup champions will take on Centennial College next Thursday night at Vaso's Field. Kick-off is at 8 p.m.
