Durham's gold medal journey comes to an end
 
OCAA Men's Volleyball Semi-Finals: Humber defeated Durham 3-0

BARRIE, Ont. – Durham College had their run for a gold medal come to an end on Friday night as the No. 3 ranked Humber Hawks swept the Lords in the semi-finals of the OCAA men's volleyball championship hosted by Georgian College.
 
Durham will now have their sights on the bronze medal as they meet up with the No. 4 ranked Algonquin Thunder at 11 a.m. in the bronze medal semi-finals. This will be Durham's third straight game against a nationally ranked opponent.
 
Coming off a five-set win over Niagara in the quarter-finals, the Lords were never able to match their intensity from Thursday night as the Hawks won by set scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-10.
 
Terrel Bramwell led the Hawks offensive attack as he pounded down 13 kills, two aces and two blocks as he was named the player of the game. Setter Joshua Shermer looked for the former national player of the year early and often which set the tempo for the sweep. Shermer finished the night with 26 assists.
 
Durham's offence could never hit their stride as they had a meager kill percentage of .232, with OCAA all-star setter Riley McAllister had a season low 12 assists. Brad VanHartingsveldt (Newcastle, Ont.) was named the player of the game for Durham with only four kills.
 
Humber will move on and match up against the Mohawk Mountaineers in the gold medal match. Fanshawe and Niagara will meet up in the other bronze medal semi-final which is slated for 9 a.m.
