OCAA Men's VolleyballDurham College defeats Loyalist 3-0 BELLEVILLE, Ont. – A slow start wasn't enough to keep the Durham College men's volleyball team from defeating Loyalist College in straight sets on Wednesday.
The No. 7 ranked Lords won the match 3-0, but narrowly took the first set 26-24.
In the second they handed the Lancers a 25-16 loss before ending the match by winning the third set 25-21.
Nick Coleman (Brooklin, Ont.) and
Petrus Kuypers (Haydon, Ont.) led Durham to victory with 10 kills apiece. Coleman also led the team in blocks with five and service aces with two.
Captain
Jeremy Hoekstra (Cobourg, Ont.) added eight kills, while
Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) had seven. With 10 points in the match, Hoekstra now has 495 career points at Durham College, currently seventh all-time. Former teammate
Brad VanHartingsveldt is sixth with 516.
Ben Hoftyzer had 13 kills, two aces and two blocks to lead the Lancers. Teammate Adam Strickland wasn't far behind him with 12 kills in the match.
The Lords next match is on the road this Saturday in North Bay against Canadore.
