OCAA Women's BasketballDurham College defeats George Brown 58-44 OSHAWA, Ont. – Tuesday night's win for Durham College women's basketball team will be important as teams battle for playoff positioning down the stretch.
The Lords defeated the George Brown Huskies 58-44 to keep pace with Centennial for third in the OCAA East Region.
After watching the Huskies open the game on a 6-0 run, Durham closed the gap, eventually going on a 14-0 of their own to take an 18-10 lead into the second quarter.
George Brown outscored the Lords in the second to close the gap to three, 26-23, at halftime.
A huge third quarter, where Durham College allowed only four points against and scored 21, put the team in the driver's seat heading into the final 10 minutes of the game. Because of that, George Brown outscoring the Lords 17-11 in the fourth quarter didn't make a significant dent before the final buzzer.
Kayla Marshall (Ottawa, Ont.) and
Alyxandrea Francisco (Whitby, Ont.) continued to do the offensive damage for the Lords by scoring 19 and 17 points respectively. Marshall added four rebounds and seven assists, while Francisco had six rebounds and one block.
Coming off the bench,
Domina Campbell (Scarborough, Ont.) had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Also picking up a double-double, Chanel Kasusula's 11 points and 15 rebounds led the Huskies offensively.
The next action for the Lords is Jan. 27 at home against the Centennial Colts. Tip-off is 6 p.m. at the CRWC.
