Box Score NORTH YORK, Ont. – After losing 3-0 to Trent University on Saturday, the Durham College men's volleyball team's first conference loss since Feb. 7, 2014, the Lords were swept by the Seneca Sting on Wednesday night.
The last time Durham lost back-to-back matches was in 2009 to the same two teams they have lost to so far in conference play this year. They opened the 2009-10 season by losing 3-0 to Seneca on Oct. 15 and to 3-2 to Trent on Oct. 29.
Durham had a slow start against the Sting to open Wednesday's match at the Seneca College Sports Centre, but bounced back in the first set to press Seneca late. The Sting came away with a 25-22 victory, but it appeared as though the Lords had taken momentum late in the set.
Although that was the case, Seneca didn't allow Durham to carry their late first-set momentum into the second as the Sting dominated the Lords 25-11.
The third set wouldn't go Durham's way either as Seneca swept the match with a 25-15 win.
Matt McGirr (Brampton, Ont.) and
Mike Harper (Oakville, Ont.) led the Lords offence with four kills apiece.
Harrison Wood (Nebraska, U.S.),
Andrew Watson (Uxbridge, Ont.) and
Rory Langley (Uxbridge, Ont.) all added three kills for Durham.
For the Seneca Sting it was Sidney Wilding leading the way with nine kills, a service ace and two blocks. Jerome Graham added seven in the Sting sweep.
Durham now has two games remaining before the holiday break. They host the La Cité Coyotes on Sunday before welcoming the Georgian Grizzlies on Thursday, Dec. 3.
