OCAA Men's VolleyballDurham defeats Algonquin 3-1 OSHAWA, Ont. – Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) was literally THE "Beast of the East" on Friday night as he picked up 22 kills in the Durham College men's volleyball team's 3-1 win over Algonquin.
He also added a service ace and two blocks in Durham's second last game of the regular season.
The No. 4 ranked Lords picked up a 25-19 first set win, but came out sluggish in the second as Algonquin took an early 7-1 lead. Durham couldn't rebound as the Thunder dominated to take it 25-16.
In the third Durham had to battle for a 25-23 set win before eventually closing out the match with a 25-21 victory in the fourth.
Petrus Kuypers (Haydon, Ont.) added 13 kills for the Lords, while team captain
Jeremy Hoekstra (Cobourg, Ont.) had 10.
Connor Dooley had 17 kills, a service ace and three blocks to lead Algonquin. Josh Isaac picked up 13 kills and two blocks.
Durham College is now 17-0 on the season with their final game slated for Thursday, Feb. 12 at home against the Fleming Knights. First serve is 8 p.m. at the CRWC.
