Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team have separated themselves from the tie for first place in the OCAA east division, at least for now.
Durham sits atop the division with a 9-2 record after a 3-0 victory over the Centennial Colts at home on Thursday night. Seneca, Georgian and Trent are all tied for second with 8-2 records.
Matt McGirr (Brampton, Ont.) led the Lords with 10 kills, nine digs and service ace.
Andrew Watson (Uxbridge, Ont.) added eight kills and six blocks for Durham, while
Nick Coleman (Brooklin, Ont.) had five blocks.
The Lords sweep did not come easy against the now 1-10 Colts. After an opening 25-18 first set victory, Centennial pressed Durham in the second, but the Lords would take it 25-22.
In the third set Centennial led late, but Durham tied the match 22-22 before taking the final set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
Ethan Peter had 10 kills to lead the Colts' offence, while Justin Smith added six with a service ace and a block.
Durham will now have the weekend off as they prepare for their match against the Loyalist Lancers on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
