ETOBICOKE, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team has a better idea of how new players are fitting into their lineup after five matches at the Humber College over the weekend.
To open the three-day tournament the Lords were down 2-0 to the Brock Badgers on Friday night, but battled back to force a fifth set, which they unfortunately lost 15-10.
On Saturday they had a three-set loss to the Western Mustangs to open day two of the tournament, but bounced back to sweep the host Humber Hawks 3-0 (25-21, 25-10, 30-28).
After finishing third in their pool, the Lords then matched up against the Windsor Lancers in the consolation semifinal. Durham lost the opening set 25-20, but caught fire and won the following three sets 25-19, 25-22 and 29-27.
With Humber defeating St. Jean in the other consolation semifinal, the Lords final match of the weekend was a rematch against the host Hawks.
Humber got their revenge, sweeping the Lords 3-0 (22-25, 20-25, 21-25), giving Durham a sixth place finish at the tournament.
The Lords will now prepare for their own tournament Oct. 7-8 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. The opening match gets underway at noon on Friday.
