Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – After going five sets in North Bay against the Canadore Panthers earlier this season, the Durham College men's volleyball team had to hold off the Panthers who were pressing hard for an upset this season against the first place Lords.
Durham lost the opening set 25-23 and in the second set looked like they were going to go down 2-0 as they trailed 21-18. The Lords countered with a 4-0 run to take a 22-21 lead and eventually edge the Panthers 25-23.
The third set was much of the same back-and-forth play as the teams were tied 15-15 and traded points for most of the remainder of the set as they were tied 20-20 before the Lords took a 22-20 lead. Canadore's timeout proved to be worthwhile as they stormed back to go ahead 23-22, which forced a Durham timeout. The Lords put theirs to use as they took the third by the same 25-23 score as the prior to sets.
In the fourth the Lords took control and shut down the Panthers, winning the set 25-14 and the match 3-1.
Mike Harper (Oakville, Ont.) had a career-high 16 points in the match to lead the Lords in the win. He finished with 10 kills, four aces and two blocks.
Matt McGirr (Brampton, Ont.) had 13 kills with an ace, while
Andrew Watson (Uxbridge, Ont.) had 10 kills, an ace and a block.
