KINGSTON, Ont. – The Durham College men's soccer team opened up OCAA conference action with a 3-0 shutout on the road over the St. Lawrence Vikings.
The Lords have looked impressive early on as their overall record improves to 5-0-0.
St. Lawrence and Durham have played close games in recent history with their last three matches being decided by one goal or less but that was not the case on Saturday as Durham blanked the Vikings 3-0.
Making his OCAA debut,
Bruce Cullen (Pickering, Ont.) netted a pair of goals while
Sasa Vukoje (Trebinje, Serbia) picked up the other. The pair's strong play rolled over from the preseason as they led the Lords with three goals apiece in four games.
The Lords held a 1-0 lead at halftime and scored two goals early in the second half to secure the win. Durham controlled the pace of the game firing 18 shots with eight on target compared to just five shots by St. Lawrence with one on target.
Mark Kamstra (Newcastle, Ont.) earned the cleansheet for Durham in goal.
The Lords will travel to Ottawa on Sunday to take on the Algonquin Thunder. Algonquin won their season opener on Saturday beating the Centennial Colts 2-0.
After the weekend, Durham will be back at Vaso's Field this Wednesday for the rescheduled campus cup. The rivalry match will kickoff at 7 p.m.
